The Spiritual Benefits Of A Hatha Yoga Class

Yoga is a truly holistic exercise. No other workout has you this in tune with your body and your mind. Instead of repetitive exercises like pounding away on the treadmill, try yoga that requires you to be involved in the process the whole time. There are many types of yoga, from the vigorous aerobic varieties like Iyangar and Ashtanga to the more sedate Hatha yoga.

Joining a Hatha yoga class is a great way to find peace and calm. The focus in a Hatha yoga class is on posture and correct breathing. These are two things that are often forgotten when you engage in other types of yoga or exercise. It may not be the most vigorous aerobic exercise but then, that's not what you're here for.

Meditative State Of Mind

Yoga is often associated with meditation and meditation is a great way to achieve inner peace. The reason that a Hatha yoga class concentrates on breathing and posture so much is that you need to be able to sit comfortably in a position for a prolonged period of time to be able to meditate.

The more comfortable you are in a position the better you can meditate. To achieve this state of mind you need to practice the proper breathing techniques and posture. As easy as it sounds it's actually a lot harder to do in practice.

Holding poses while concentrating on the proper time to inhale and exhale can often be difficult. Coupled with the fact that many people breathe incorrectly. Compared to other classes, such as an Ashtanga yoga class, you will find that a Hatha yoga class moves a lot more slowly.

Baby Steps

Even if you are not interested in a Hatha yoga class for its spiritual benefits, it's still a great place to start if you want to learn yoga. If you need to get into shape then the gentle movements is a great way to start toning up your muscles.

The best part about a Hatha yoga class is that you don't feel as if you are straining your body or really working out but you are. You will start to feel the difference in the way that you stand and carry yourself. You will also see a difference in how flexible you are.

You will be toning and stretching muscles you didn't know you had. You can achieve all this while feeling better mentally. You will find that after a few weeks that yoga has become addictive and it won't be long till you want to try every type of yoga out there.
