Detoxifying With A Bikram Yoga Class
Have you ever heard that yoga is a great way to cleanse the body? Well why not amp it up with a little heat. As everyone knows sweating is a natural way for the body to clear out toxins from the system. So it would only make sense to combine a discipline that cleanses the body with heat.
Mix the two and you get a Bikram yoga class. Everyone is hailing this form of yoga as the best way to get into shape and feel better. It may take getting used to but once you do there's no going back.
Not For The Faint Hearted
If your previous experience with yoga has been something mild like a Hatha yoga class then you may probably find yourself starting from the beginning again at a Bikram yoga class. The new element of heat in a Bikram yoga class can really add a lot of difficulty to the exercises even if you have done some of the poses before.
Expect to sweat a lot during your class, in fact you might find yourself having headaches after the first few sessions. This is because your body is detoxifying. As anyone who has stopped smoking will tell you, it's not pleasant. If you stick through the initial sessions you might find yourself loving the results.
Going At Your Own Pace
When you enter a Bikram yoga class you will see that there are people of all ages and fitness levels. This is because you are meant to go at your own pace. If you feel like taking a break during the class or can't manage a position then don't. Take a break when you need to and drink plenty of water.
What You Need
Before you join a Bikram yoga class there are a few things you will need. It is best to wear tight fitting clothes when you are in a class. Baggy t-shirts and sweat pants are not recommended. They will only get heavier throughout your workout and feel uncomfortable. Wear a pair of shorts or snug yoga pants. Sleeveless exercise tops are also advisable.
You should always make sure you come to your Bikram yoga class fully hydrated. This means that two hours before class you should drink plenty of water. It's definitely not advisable to come to class if you are hung over. You should have a bottle of water with you, and make it a big one. You will need to drink plenty of water throughout your workout.
